Welsh Camerata Christmas concert
Wed, 19 Nov 2025Printable version

The festive season really gets going when Welsh Camerata gives its Christmas concert, and this year is no exception.
The Welsh Camerata choir is joined on Saturday 20 December by soloists and instrumentalists for a programme of music which traces the Christmas story from the prophecy of John the Baptist, through the Ave Maria of the Annunication to the proclamation of birth of Jesus to the shepherds. The music ranges from the serene and beautiful Ave Maria setting by Parsons to the joyful proclamations of the Saviour’s birth, in music by Purcell, Sweelinck, Peter Philips and Melchior Franck. As Orlando Gibbons’ 400th death anniversary year draws to a close, we celebrate his great talent with three contrasting pieces - the dramatic questioning of John the Baptist in This is the Record of John; the stately hymn setting As on the Night and the joyful Magnificat, Mary’s song of praise.
We return to the wonderful Church of the Resurrection (‘The Res’) in Ely, where we are also honoured this year to be included in their annual Christmas Tree Festival. The Festival takes place from 4-6 December (full details on the church’s website https://www.theresely.org/
Festive refreshments will be served in the interval of the concert, so it really couldn’t be any more Christmassy.
We hope you can join us!

Taith Nadolig: O’r Cyhoeddiad i’r Geni
Bydd tymor yr ŵyl yn dechrau go iawn pan fydd Camerata Cymru yn rhoi ei gyngerdd Nadolig, ac thydy eleni ddim yn eithriad.
Caiff gôr Camerata Cymru ei ymuno ar ddydd Sadwrn 20 Rhagfyr gan unawdwyr ac offerynwyr ar gyfer rhaglen o gerddoriaeth sy’n olrhain stori’r Nadolig o broffwydoliaeth Ioan Fedyddiwr, drwy gydol Ave Maria y Cyhoeddiad hyd at gyhoeddiad genedigaeth Iesu i’r bugeiliaid. Mae’r gerddoriaeth yn amrywio o osodiad tawel a hardd Ave Maria gan Parsons hyd at gyhoeddiadau llawen genedigaeth y Gwaredwr, mewn cerddoriaeth gan Purcell, Sweelinck, Peter Philips a Melchior Franck. Wrth i 400fed pen-blwydd marwolaeth Orlando Gibbons ddod i ben, rydym yn dathlu ei dalent fawr gyda thri darn cyferbyniol - cwestiynu dramatig Ioan Fedyddiwr yn This is the Record of John; gosodiad emyn urddasol Fel ar y Nos a’r Magnificat llawen, cân fawl Mair.
Rydym yn dychwelyd at hyfryd Eglwys yr Atgyfodiad (‘Yr Atgyfodiad’) yn Nhrelái, lle rydym hefyd eleni wedi ein hanrhydeddu i gael ein cynnwys yn eu Gŵyl Coeden Nadolig flynyddol. Cynhelir yr Ŵyl o 4-6 Rhagfyr (manylion llawn ar wefan yr eglwys https://www.theresely.org/events) ond bydd y coed yn aros yn eu lle wedyn felly byddwch yn gallu gweld nhw i gyd, gan gynnwys yr un yn y Camerata Cymreig, pan ddewch i'r cyngerdd. Mae'n olygfa hyfryd iawn.
Bydd lluniaeth Nadoligaidd yn cael ei weini yn ystod egwyl y cyngerdd, felly ni allai fod yn fwy Nadoligaidd wir i chi.
Gobeithio gallwch ymuno â ni!
Tocynnau: £16
Gostyngiadau: £8 (o dan 18 oed, myfyrwyr llawn amser, hawlwyr budd-daliadau)
